Waking Up in Every Moment: A Seven-day Guest Teacher Retreat

Personal meditation practice is an essential foundation for anyone who works with mindfulness-based interventions. This retreat is an opportunity to refresh and deepen your personal meditation practice. Most of the retreat will be spent engaged in silent sitting and walking practice. The retreat leaders will offer daily talks and individual meetings as well as facilitate a group inquiry process.
Towards the end of the retreat, there will be periods of guided interpersonal inquiry and dialogue to explore the connection between personal practice and teaching mindfulness.
Our attention during this retreat will be on the possibility of waking up to our life as it is in every moment. We do this through meeting the suffering and joy that naturally arises in our own body, mind and heart with open and compassionate awareness. Developing the capacity to encounter these inner states with equanimity and curiosity creates a foundation for meeting the experiences of our class participants in our offering of mindfulness-based interventions.
Melissa and David bring their experience in both mindfulness-based interventions and the Zen tradition to this retreat. Their commitment to waking up, their compassionate stance as teachers and their sense of humour create an atmosphere of deep practice that is essential for encountering the true nature of the heart-mind.
About the teachers:
Melissa Myozen Blacker, MA, was an MBSR teacher and director of programs at the Center for Mindfulness at the University of Massachusetts Medical School in Worcester, Massachusetts, USA, founded by Jon Kabat-Zinn, from 1992 to 2012. She is a fully transmitted Zen teacher (Roshi), and co-founder, guiding teacher and Abbot of Boundless Way Zen, a multi-lineage Zen community in New England, and has a private practice in contemplative counseling. She is co-editor of The Book of Mu: Essential Teachings on Zen’s Most Famous Koan.
David Dae An Rynick, PCC, MALS, in addition to being a fully transmitted Zen teacher, is the Abbot of Boundless Way Temple and a life and leadership coach. He works with individuals around the US and UK to help them clarify what is truly important so that they can take action to align their lives more fully with their deepest dreams. A former private school headmaster, teacher, and artist, he has led numerous workshops and retreats on topics ranging from meditation to improvisational dance to organisational leadership. He is the author of This Truth Never Fails: A Zen Memoir in Four Seasons.
Please arrive for 4:00pm on the first day in time for dinner and orientation in the evening. The retreat ends at noon on the last day, followed by lunch. Participants will need to depart by 2:00pm.
Trigonos is located in the village of Nantlle in North Wales between Penygroes and Rhyd Ddu. Caernarfon is the nearest town and Bangor the nearest mainline railway station (West Coast mainline). The retreat fee is £495.00 including VAT. This does not include your accommodation costs since you will need to liaise with Trigonos directly. Accommodation at Trigonos is guaranteed once your place on the training has been confirmed. Accommodation is in shared twin rooms with only a few single rooms available to early bookers. In addition there is space for two campers. Bedrooms will be allocated on a strictly first-come-first-served basis on receipt of the booking form and deposit (or employer’s details) and cannot be reserved in advance. Price includes full board for the period of the training.

The Application Process:
There are no specific entry criteria for this Retreat.
After we receive your Application Form we will wait for payment before we confirm your place. Once we confirm your place we will email you a confirmation of your booking along with the Trigonos Accommodation Booking Form, which you will need to complete and email (as an attachment) to Trigonos directly. Trigonos don’t accept bookings unless they have a Booking Form, which provides them with evidence that you have been approved for a place.
The Mindfulness Network CIC requires payment before the course commencement date.
Invoices are only raised where the employer is paying, however this method can slow down the process and payment by the participant is recommended. No place is secure on a course until full payment has been received. Once an invoice has been raised the course place is dependent on prompt payment. If our invoice is not paid on time, the course place will be released for other participants on the waiting list. This process reduces last minute cancellations, ensures that invoices are not raised then left unpaid and that all course places are allocated. So that you do not lose your place due to financial issues, we advise that if you are requesting an invoice to be raised that you communicate with your employer to make payment within the timeframe detailed on the invoice.
Responsibility for payment remains with the course attendee. If the employer does not pay the invoice, the applicant will be liable to make payment or meet the cancellation charges.
You may withdraw your application eight weeks prior to the event commencement date at which point you will be offered a refund, minus a 25% admin fee. If you cancel your place on a course within eight weeks of the event commencement date, no refund will be offered.
In the unlikely event that, due to unforeseen circumstances, the course has to be cancelled by us, we will refund any fees paid to us by participants. Our liability is limited to refunding only our event fees. We recommend participants have adequate insurance to cover any cancelled travel or personal expenses.
